Construction of 32 MW solar PV plant
Gradually integrate renewable power into Chad’s national grid.
The Djermaya solar project, represented by its majority shareholder InfraCo Africa, recently signed a 25-year power purchase agreement with the Ministry of Energy and SNE, the national power utility company in August 2018. With the Environment and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) being submitted to authorities for approval and the African Development Bank confirmed as mandated lead arranger for the project, the first 32MWp phase of the project is on track to start delivering power in 2021
The grant disbursement will be completed with a slight delay. Reasons for delay:
- several Government reshuffles, the last one being in November 2018
- The EPC tender timeline had to be extended, in order to answer concerns about security expressed by several EPC bidders. The Sponsors have funded a third-party study on security situation at site & appropriate mitigation measures to put in place during construction, which outcomes have been shared with the EPC bidders
Djermaya Solar aims to construct a 60MW solar PV plant in Djermaya, 30km north of Chad’s capital, N’Djamena. The first phase of the project is the construction of 32 MW solar PV plant which will reduce 6 kton CO2 equivalent GHG emissions per year. Besides, the project will create direct employment during the construction phase and operational phase. Project operational date is expected to be 2020.
